This is a release on my favorite cassette label, Human Sounds Records. It came out a while ago, and it’s probably the album I listen to the most in quiet moments. (Well, that, and L’Amour)
I was too young to see Elliot Smith before he passed away in 2004, but thanks to the wonders of technology, the great folks at the Internet Archive, and the kindness of Smith and his estate, I can enjoy and share with you this performance he gave in Atlanta in 2000.
I’ll keep this brief, but here are the highlights: Man or Astroman? is a band that makes crazy good space surf. The Internet Archive is pretty much the best thing in the world. Here’s some free music.
José and The Hawk is a new webseries on Kickstarter from the team behind Manos Hands of Felt. It’s beautiful, and I’m really excited about it. The series features José, a cop, and his partner The Hawk, a puppet. The first episode is fully funded, and they are on to stretch goals!
My New mixtape is now available from Mixcloud (it’s 45 minutes long, so you can fit it on to the A-side of a c-90.) This one features a lot of tracks from the Internet Archive’s 78 RPM collection. It’s pretty blues heavy, with a dash of Rock, a touch of Jazz, and some analog synth circa 1941. I will almost certainly follow this one up with a sequel soon. (Full track list, and sources after the jump.)
